The advertised position is located in the Department of Education of the Faculty of Philosophy and Education and belongs to the section School, Education and Society and to the research unit Historical and Comparative School and Empirical Research (by 1st of September 2020 under the direction of Univ. Prof. Dr. Barbara Schulte). The Department’s main responsibilities lie within the area of teaching and research in the field of Education. The research is centered on the description, critical analysis, and scientific explanation of phenomena of education. Your subject area will include the education and training processes in specially created social institutions (such as schools), as well as the educational and socialization processes in non-pedagogically institutionalized fields of social life (peer groups, milieus, media, etc.).

Duration of employment: 6 year/s

Extent of Employment: 40 hours/week
Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 lit. b (postdoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.

Job Description:
Active participation in research, teaching and administration. This involves
– Developing and strengthening an independent research profile
– Participating in research projects
– Publishing in international peer-reviewed journals and presenting at conferences and workshops
– Leading and / or participating in project applications and the acquisition of third-party funding
– Working on a habilitation thesis
– Independently teaching courses as defined by the collective agreement
– Supervision of students
– Participating in evaluation measures and quality assurance
– Getting involved in the department’s administration as well as in teaching and research administration

– Doctoral degree / PhD degree in education (or other discipline relevant for the field of comparative and international education), with focus on comparative and / or international education
– Professional competence in the field of comparative and international education. Regional research focus on Turkey and / or Turkish migrant groups. Research experiences and research interest regarding the interaction of politics, religion, education, and the wider society, as well as regarding the complex topic of ‘academic freedom’
– Methodological competence regarding qualitative research approaches in education, including in particular experiences with conducting fieldwork and interview studies as well as policy analysis
– Experiences with designing and teaching courses
– High ability to express yourself both orally and in writing
– Excellent command of written and spoken English and Turkish
– ICT user skills
– Ability to work in a team

In addition, we expect the successful candidate to have
– Teaching experience / experience of working with e-learning
– Experience of working on research projects
– Peer-reviewed publications in renowned journals and book contributions of relevance for the field of international and comparative education
– Experience in presenting at international conferences relevant for the field
