OFFER DESCRIPTION 

The researcher will become member of a research group at Pompeu Fabra University specialized on democratic theory, citizen engagement and participation, deliberative democracy and electoral processes at local, national and European levels. The researcher is expected to be able to conduct research on the ethics of voting, on how to improve the quality and legitimacy of our democracies, and on how to enhance electoral and non-electoral political participation. The aim of this job is to collaborate in the research of the REDEM project within the European network of that project. A good part of that collaboration will have to do with the evaluation of policy proposals for enhancing electoral participation at the local, national and European levels.

Benefits

One-year Full Time Postdoc Project Researcher position, with a gross salary of approximately 32.284,80 € [according to UPF pay scales, INV-PROJ tipus 2: Investigador ordinari].

Description of the criteria for the assessment of candidates and the number of points assigned to them (out of 100):

  • Research capacity judged by the impact achieved (education background, publications, conference presentations, etc.): up to 30 points
  • Knowledge and mastership over the Project’s research topics: up to 30 points
  • Quality of the sample writing: up to 20 points
  • Letter of motivation: up to 10 points
  • Letters of recommendation: up to 10 points

Skills/Qualifications

Candidates must be experts on democratic theory and political philosophy with a focus on electoral systems and citizen participation, and familiarized with discussions on democratic legitimacy, authority, the epistemic justification of democracy and the ethics of voting.

They must be early stage researchers, preferably with some postdoctoral research experience. 

They must have a PhD, and a background in political science, or philosophy, or law, with a special focus in political philosophy and democratic theory, and more specifically in political participation and the quality of democratic systems.
